The Mobile number portablity is nowadays possible in some mobile networks. In Bsnl also its possible. The mobile users of any network can switch their network to BSNL easily. Bsnl Offers the porting with free of cost.
step 1:
Obtain Unique Porting Code [UPC] from the bsnl by sending sms to 1900 as PORT followed by mobile number [PORT XXXXXXXXXX].
Step 2:
Then UPC will be given to the subscriper and that is valid only for 15 days from the date of request.
For Jammu&Kashmir, Assam and North East Licensed area the period of validation is 30 days.
Step 3:
Visit BSNL customer Care Centre for porting your mobile number and fill the customer application form.They issue new BSNL sim card.
Step 4:
Upon approving of porting request Bsnl inform the date and time of porting. Then Change the sim card at the time said by them then you will have the BSNL network with the same number.
Many networks providing mobile number porting with some cost but BSNL now providing this with free of cost.
